Roman bars like to offer this thing called "Aperitivo" where usually between 6-9pm, you just have to order a drink and with it, you get a free buffet of appetizers. The idea is that it's Happy Hour, and you'll drink and eat appetizers before heading home for dinner.
For me though, it means dinner! Tonight, I visited the trendy Campo dei Fiori and stopped in a bar for aperitivo. I ordered a spritz verde (prosecco, bacardi apple, kiwi and soda) and then stuffed my face with a variety of fresh veggie salads, pizzas, and bruschetta. What a relief to have so many vegetables, so I went back for seconds! It was a delicious treat and I plan on doing the same tomorrow.
And the whole going to a bar alone thing? Totally doable. It's a great way to observe the young locals.
